Medical Advisory Board

The Canadian Amyloidosis Support Network, Inc. is a not-for-profit, all volunteer organization, formed by amyloidosis patients and family members of amyloidosis patients. Our Support Network refers to our commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of patients and families.

Joseph Mikhael MD, MEd, FRCP(C)

Dr. Mikhael is a staff hematologist at Princess Margaret Hospital with a specialty in Multiple Myeloma. He also does a benign hematology clinic and attends on general medicine. His clinical research interests include the transformation of MGUS to Myeloma, clinical trials in relapsed Myeloma and amyloidosis, systemic therapy for benign hematology and supportive care in cancer.

Dr. Mikhael is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto. As a clinician educator, he spends considerable time teaching and developing educational curricula. He currently holds the AMS (Associated Medical Services) Fellowship in End of Life Care in medicine at the U of T - which means he develops and runs a curriculum to teach end of life care to trainees in internal medicine. He is also the mentorship director for the internal medicine program.

Dr. Mikhael graduated from medical school at the University of Ottawa, and did an internal medicine residency at the Ottawa General Hospital. He then did his hematology training in Toronto, along with a masters' degree in education at the University of Toronto - Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE). He completed a two-year multiple Myeloma fellowship at PMH before coming on staff.

Kevin Song MD

Dr. Kevin Song is currently a member of the Leukemia / Bone Marrow Transplant Program of British Columbia. He graduated from McGill University Medical School in 1995. After completing 3 years of training in internal medicine at the University of Toronto, he moved to Vancouver where he completed his hematology sub-specialization at the University of British Columbia. He then did a one year fellowship with the Leukemia Bone Marrow Transplant Program of British Columbia followed by a second year with the University of Toronto Autologous Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at Princess Margaret Hospital. He then returned to Vancouver to occupy his current position. His areas of interest are in the study of therapies for Myeloma and Lymphomas.
